Richard Bidmead said: Susan, This sounds very exciting! What will these world cafe-conversations be addressing, just out of curiosity? Also, have you thought about giving everyone an iPad, and using that as a harvesting-tool? ... ;-) Kidding/I wish! I love this idea of adaptive hosting (is that a real phrase yet? It should be!) and having everyone make what they can out of the setting they're in. Richard about the Hosting World Cafe - Challenging Spaces discussion. - 48 weeks ago

Richard Bidmead said: John, That was a wonderful example -- Thank you for sharing it. To "...not just move an audience, but move them to DO something" is so resonating for me. Those are the storytellers who inspire me to not only do something, but live and tell a story that continually inspires myself and others -- A storified passing of the flame that only amplifies its power with each new spark of inspiration. So many examples, such an understatement. I'm definitely looking forward to a possible blog from you. Richard Bidmead said: Hi John! Thanks for joining the discussion. That's an interesting delineation: normal stories versus intentional, message-centric stories. Is that right? I'm intrigued to know more about how you've used stories as advocacy agents in your work. What has been the most powerful use of story for you in creating social change? Thanks again for adding to the dialogue! Richard about the How do YOU use story and storytelling for community action? discussion. - 49 weeks ago
Richard Bidmead said: Antonia, what are your thoughts on what it takes to create a sense of community? I'd love to read what you think on this topic! I'm sure you have some great insights from leading this discussion in March. Richard Bidmead said: A big one for me is shared purpose -- tethering everything else (disagreement, conflict, strategy, planning, etc.) to the single force that drives your co-creative work -- the minimum common thread, if you will. Without it, I find it is not only very difficult to go anywhere (except in incoherent, likely combative circles), but the emergent space is automatically off-kiltered by chaos. The missing purpose is like a big tall order of chaos from the get-go, I feel. And when chaos is the baseline for shared work, the work (and experience working together) becomes chaotic -- and difficult to worth with. Beaudelaine, what do you think makes for most effective partnerships? Richard about the Effective Partnerships Through Art of Hosting discussion. - 50 weeks ago
Richard Bidmead said: Sandra, I'm curious to know your thoughts on the education gap issue, as well as the correlation to institutional and individual racism. You did a wonderful job of prompting all of us, but what do you think? I'm sure you have some excellent insights from the group-discussion you led in March. Richard about the What are the top 3 issues we should address in the Twin Cities? discussion. - 50 weeks ago
Richard Bidmead said: I respect your point of view and am curious to know more about other potential solutions for individual or systemic forms of racism! If, indeed, the "problem lies elsewhere" which, in many ways it does (since it is all-pervasive and not limited to the war on drugs), where do you see it rooted more deeply in its cause? I'd love to read your insights. Richard about the What are the top 3 issues we should address in the Twin Cities? discussion. - 50 weeks ago
Richard Bidmead said: Richard, that is so profound! And I feel I experienced this, in a way, at the Storytelling training when all the group-stories came together and were infused into one big story. Was this an example of what you're talking about? The community story speaking through us, using us? Richard about the How do YOU use story and storytelling for community action? discussion. - 51 weeks ago
Richard Bidmead said: Thanks for sharing this, Richard! Since I was filming during the training, I wasn't able to tell or receive powerful stories in this way. Just out of curiosity, what has been your most powerful experience with this exercise? Has there been a story you've told of yourself or another that really resonated with an audience in discernibly impactful ways? Excited for others to talk about this too! Richard about the The most powerful story discussion. - 51 weeks ago
