Northside Youth Collaborative

Northside Youth Collaborative Minneapolis, MN

History
The Northside Youth Collaborative (NYC) is a youth advocate community response to violence amongst youth in north Minneapolis. The NYC came out of a break-out session at the Ending Youth Violence conference that took place in September of 2011. The NYC has been meeting since October of 2011 at different sites in north Minneapolis. The NYC meets the 2nd Tuesday of every month and rotates location to different sites in north Minneapolis.

Focus
The NYC focuses on bringing a wide array of youth workers and youth together to address the issue of youth violence in North Mpls. Youth are invited to be a part of NYC meetings. Issues currently identified are the lack of youth programming and high unemployment for youth aged 15-20 on the Northside. The NYC is working to develop solutions to these issues and to help curb the fever of summer violence that happens annually.

Value
The NYC will serve to bring youth and youth advocates together to hear from youth, to share resources and events taking place in the Northside community, and to take action on projects identified by members involved. By bringing the youth work community together, youth violence in North Mpls will be reduced through cooperative solutions.
