The most powerful story

The most powerful story, pound for pound, is your own, told back to you by a stranger, in the first person. Sit with someone new to you. Take two minutes to tell her about an important moment in your life. The prompt might be, "Talk about a turning point in your life." Risk sharing deeply. What led up to it? What happened? What came of it? Then ask the stranger to tell you your story back, in the first person, as if it happened to her. When that is done, reverse the process. Listen to and then tell her story, in the first person.

Talk about how it felt. Talk about how you feel about each other.

Thanks for sharing this, Richard!

Since I was filming during the training, I wasn't able to tell or receive powerful stories in this way.

Just out of curiosity, what has been your most powerful experience with this exercise? Has there been a story you've told of yourself or another that really resonated with an audience in discernibly impactful ways?

Excited for others to talk about this too!

Richard

I'd like to try this exercise! I wonder if I could get a small group of my friends to do this together. I wonder what we'd learn about each other, and where else it might lead us to try this kind of sharing and relationship-building.
