DO THE MATH - A Million things in Common Divided by 1 - HATE
What do you want out of life? Not just for yourself but for your family and friends? If I were to ask different ethnic-groups this question; they would have similar responses: Love, prosperity, peace, education, career, etc. Most importantly, happiness! WE ALL HAVE SOMETHING IN COMMON.
We want all the above and more for the people we love; yet some of us not only oppose but fight against the stability of others! It's time we put this age-old problem to rest!
Do THE MATH: I would like to set-up around Minneapolis a series of visuals, such as paintings, each with its' own category listing what we have in common. I would select artistes, and give them the tools ( paint, brushes, canvass, etc) they need to depict a category! At the bottom of each visual would be a description of what unites us and what divides us (racism)!
For example, USA Events: 9-11, Hurricane Katrina, and The oil Spill- We were all affected by these disasters. We mourned the loss of lives, and we aided those who survive. Let's further our unity by dividing racism!
Category: Sports - Lakers, Heat, Chicago Bulls, White Sox's, Vikings, etc. Regardless of what team you support; each team is composed of players from different ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds. Sharing a common goal; winning. Lets win the fight against racism!
Category: Health Problems: Obesity, Cancer, HIV, Cold, Flu, etc. While some groups may be more at risk for developing one over the other; we all share the potential of contracting one of the above. WE ARE ALL AT RISK. Let's work-together to find a cure!

How does your idea help reduce racism in an innovative way? An innovation may be a completely new approach, an expansion of a proven one or a new twist on existing solutions
It's an in-your-face approach to understanding that we all want the same-thing: To be accepted and love, not just for us, but for the people we love! WE ALL HAVE SOMETHING IN COMMON! The visuals would show that!

Tell us how racism is affecting your community. Community may be defined broadly
Racism distracts US ALL FROM PROSPERING. We can't grow as a whole, if a portion of our community is failing because of lack of education, food, housing, and jobs. Than there is a problem! We know the people who need help, but how many of us do WHAT WE CAN, instead of WHAT WE WANT, to help those in-need?!
How does your idea bring people together to address racism in your community?
We all have love for family, friends, sports, music, movies, social networks, etc. By enacting my idea, it will allow for people to see visuals in their communities of how we are all similar.
Sustainability
How will you use $2,500 to fully implement your idea?
I will need artistes, paint, brushes, and whatever else need to create a visual!
What do you hope others might learn from your idea?
There are a million things we have in common but only one divides us- racism. In the moment, you deny someone of their civil rights or you began to stereotype them, I want you think about my visual....see that we have something in common!
