It’s official. Ramsey County has the worst air pollution in Minnesota. That ‘s what the American Lung Association concluded in its annual report card. Not only did Ramsey County score the lowest, but air quality also dropped from a “C” to a “D” over the past year. A total of five densely-populated counties received lower scores this year. With population booming and more cars on the road, the question remains, what can we do to clean up the air and breathe easier?

Bob Moffitt from the American Lung Association says that driving less and using alternative methods of transportation are key. However, many people would argue that kids make driving necessary or that they don’t feel safe or accommodated by the current options of transit. Then there’s the talk of hybrid and electric vehicles. Are they affordable? Are they clean? What’s the difference between a Flex Fuel and a hybrid? Where are we supposed to plug in an electric car?

On August 17th from 6:30pm-8:00pm in St. Paul, experts will answer questions about electric cars in a free lecture called, “Can electric cars work in Minnesota?” The American Lung Association is sponsoring the event as part of the Clean Air Choices lecture series. Advance sign up is  recommended. For more information on the event, click here.
