More than a Greeting-Card Thanksgiving
It’s the time of year where many of us are in full-tilt Thanksgiving planning mode. You’ve got your turkey (or tofurkey, in the case of our vegetarian and vegan friends) ordered, you’re figuring out where you’re going to stuff all those relatives when they come to town, and some of you may be gearing up for some pretty great time on the couch watching epic amounts of football.
In the middle of the hub-bub of food, family, friends, (and football), the message of Thanksgiving often gets only greeting-card amounts of attention. But, there’s a reason why expressing gratitude matters. As the year closes, our gratitude helps us first slow down, look back and inside ourselves, and then creates energy and good will that prepare us for the coming year. When we all take the time to express our gratitude, we all contribute to something like a collective spirit or energy of gratitude that surrounds us. You can almost feel the good will circling around us all! It’s maybe just the push we need to carry us into 2012, and we all can create it together when we take the time to offer thanks.
